Bad Gastein, Austria 2019 ( Great first trip with Ski Miquel )

So this year we went to Bad Gastein in Austria, we went with Ski Miquel.

I had not been skiing for quite some time but I had a free week so I thought I would give Paul a call and see if he was heading off anywhere nice. Paul informed me that they ( he and Laurence ) were heading off to Austria to ski in Bad Gastein so Paul made a few calls and I booked my flight and transfer and off I went.

My Trip

My plan was to fly from Liverpool to Salzburg and then I would catch a bus to the train station and then get the train up the valley (90 mins ) where I would be met by Laurence and Paul who would hopefully have sorted out our accommodation and maybe skiis.

The first part of my journey was fine as I flew form Liverpool to Salzburg, then I caught a bus form directly outside of the airport and then a 15 minute bus ride to the train station where for 15 euros I boarded the 90 minute train up to Bad Gastein.

Things did not go too well for me on the train travel front as I got off the train at the stop before Bad Gastein and that caused not only a delay in me getting there but also cost me in an expensive taxi (cos I was in the middle of nowhere ).When I did arrive at Bad Gastein I was directed to the Tannenberg Hotel where we spent the week.

The Tannenberg Hotel

The Hotel is of course run by Ski Miquel and we were looked after by the Ski Miquel team.

The rooms were great, the food was great and the guided skiing was also great with ‘Dave’ form Yorkshire leading the slow group ( which I was in ). We all shared the same room which again was fine. With Ski Miquel , breakfast and evening meals are all included as are the 4:00 pm cake and tea/coffee IF you make it down form the slopes in time.

The staff are delightful and everything was just fine. There is one evening in the week where the staff take the night off and here we have to fend for ourselves ( which again is no big deal ). The ski hire is just a matter of 150M form the hotel with lockers for hire ( 15 euros/week ).The resort is busy but the lifts are adequate and seem to accomodate everyone easily.

Guided skiing is again provided by Ski Miquel and this is all in the package.

For the week that we were there we had a chap called ‘Dave’ who was from Yorkshire and he took US ( the slower group ) all week and he was a delight and a good skiier.

While we were at Bad Gastein Richard Johnson and some of his directors and accountant decided to come over for most of the week. Richard is the founder of Ski Miquel so it was interesting to be able to discuss just how he created an established the business.I did not take a great deal of photographs on this trip ( sorry ) but I have sworn to make up for this in the future. Here’s to next year when again I hope that we will be able to go skiing with Ski Miquel.
